Representative UPDATE 2016

Our representative teams are making promising moves in their respective divisions of the Waikato inter-club championship golf competition.

Division 3 Stewart Alexander Pennant Team Sponsored by  KBA & A.C Petfoods.

– Played Ngaruawahia @ Cambridge (Winning 6.5 -3.5)

Division 3 played Ngaruawahia at Cambridge,  the boys played extremely well in the morning taking a 3 nil lead into the singles.  Well played match’s and a great spirit between both sides were evident.  Our team rallied for a 6.5 to 3.5 game score and win.  These lads are on a very good role as they have notched up 4 wins out of 4 for a total of 8 points to lead their division.  They have beaten  Whangamata, Te Aroha, Tahuna and Ngaruawahia in their latest outing.  Two more wins should allow them a safe passage into the finals.  They will play Tirau next at home though which will prove a hand full as they have home ground advantage plus a strong team.

Next Round @ Tirau 3rd April VS Tirau Golf Club

Division 4 Stewart Alexander Pennant Team  Sponsored by Mitre 10 Mega Te Awamutu

– Played Hauraki@ Coromandel Golf Club (Winning 5 – 4)

After a extremely challenging start being down 2 – 1 in the morning foursomes we new we had a big battle to over come.  The only morning match to go our way was Atu Te Ao & Ray Dearing,  Both Phil Lambert partnered with Mel Brown were out of sorts losing 6/5 as well as Curtis Taukiri & Hyrum Sunnex.

First singles match win went to Mel Brown who was disappointed with his earlier morning performance and making amends winning 6/5.  Next in was unflappable Atu Te Ao with amazing play being -2 through 9 holes winning on the 17th hole 3/2.

H Sunnex was 1 up playing the last & Phil Lambert 1 down playing the last, leaving both teams even with Ray Dearing 1 down with 2 to go and Curtis 1 up with 2 to go.  Sunnex’s opponent drains a monster putt for birdie on the last which made the team games all square.  Phil Lamberts opponent putts close for a given putt for bogey.  Lambert steps up and reply’s with a 12 foot putt for par after being down 4 at one stage in the match, sealing a well earned half. Unfortunately Ray Dearing lost 1 down making it again a squared match to that point.  Relief as we saw Curtis walk the last after playing outstanding golf all day winning at no.1 on the 17th hole 2/1 sealing a team win against the competition leaders.

Our team currently sits at 2nd place behind Ngahinepouri/Pirongia & Hauraki with 2 wins 1 loss and Draw with 3 rounds left.

Next Round @ Matamata 3rd April  VS Coromandle

Stewart Alexander Prebble Cup  Sponsored by Qubik

After losing their first match and being relegated to the Tolich trophy our boys need to step up and win the next game against Cambridge at Te Aroha.  Jason Kraayvanger and the team need to lift and hopefully advance to the semi’s.  ‘but’ as they say one game at a time.

Next Round @ Te Aroha 10th April VS Cambridge

Stewart Alexander Handicap Matchplay  Sponsored by Ultra Scan

A mixed bag start for the boys at Pirongia who currently sit at 8th spot.  They need to catch up to competition leaders who are on 414.5 nett or qualify in the top 7 we currently sit at 460.5 which is a huge task.  How ever there are 7 teams in front by a couple of shots if we can pull them back in the next 2 rounds we should qualify for the finals.

Next Round @ Taumaranui Golf Club 10th April
